「1」

《Love poem》情詩

We have plenty of matches in our house

我們家裡有足夠多的火柴

we keep them on hand always

我們總是把它們放在身邊

currently our favorite brand is Ohio Blue Tip,

此刻，我們最愛的火柴品牌是俄亥俄藍頭

though we used to prefer Diamond brand

That was before we discovered Ohio Blue Tip matches

They are excellently packaged sturdy

When you're a child

當你還是個孩童的時候

you learn

there are three dimensions:

你知道世上有三個維度：

height,width,and depth.

長度 寬度 和深度

Like a shoebox.

就像鞋盒

Then later you hear

之後你就知道

there's a fourth dimension:

還有第四個維度：

time.

Hmm.

Then some say

然後有人說

there can be Five,Six,Seven...

I knock off work,

我下班後

have a beer

at the bar.

I look down at the glass

and feel glad.

《Poem》詩篇

I‘m in the house.

我在房子裡

It's nice out:warm

外面舒服

暖和

Sun on cold snow.

陽光照在冰冷的雪上

First day of spring

初春的第一天

or last of winter.

或是晚冬的最後一天

My legs run up

the stairs and out

the door,

我的雙腿跑下樓 跑出門

my top half here writing

而我的上半身 正在寫詩

When I wake up earlier than you and you

當我比你早些醒來

are turned to face me,face

當你轉身面朝著我

on the pillow and hair spread around,

枕上的面龐 四散的頭髮

I take a chance and stare at you,

我貿然注視著你

amazed in love and afraid

覺得如此癡迷 因為愛你

that you might open your eyes and have

也因為怕你突然睜開雙眼

the daylights scared out of you.

被我驚嚇不已

But maybe with the daylights gone

但也許驚嚇之餘

you'd see how much my chest and head

你才能看見我的胸膛和腦袋

implode for you,their voices trapped

是如何為你坍塌

inside like unborn children fearing

那些聲響被困在我身體裡

they will never see the light of day.

像是害怕無緣天日的嬰孩

The opening in the wall now dimly glows

ints rainy blue and gray.

I tie my shoes

andy go downstairs to put the coffee on.

Water falls from the bright air,

it falls like hair

如髮絲一般落下

falling across the young girl’s shoulders

從伊人的肩上落下

water falls

making pools and asphalt

水潭和瀝青變成了

dirty mirrors with clouds and buildings inside，

倒映雲朵和房屋的泥鏡

it falls on the river of my house

它落在我家門前的河流裡

falls on my mother and on my hair

它落到母親和我的頭髮上

most people call it rain.

《The Run》 奔跑

I go through

trillions of molecules

數萬億分子

that move aside

to make way for me

while on both sides

stay where they are.

The windshield wiper

blade starts to squeak.

The rain has stopped

I stop.

On the corner

a boy in a yellow raincoat

My little pumpkin，

我的小南瓜

I like to think about other girls sometimes,

我有時會去想其他女孩

but the truth is

I’d tear my heart out

and never put it back.

There’ll never be anyone like you.

There’s an old song

有一首古老的歌謠

my grandfather used to sing

我的祖父常常唱起

that has the question,

歌裡這樣問道

「Or would you like be a fish?」

抑或你願意做一條魚？

In the same song

同樣在這首歌謠裡

is the same question

還有同樣的問題

but with a mule and a pig,

但說的是騾子和豬

but the one I hear sometimes

而時常迴響在

in my head is the fish one.

我腦海中的是魚

Just that one line.

只有那麼一行

Would you rather be a fish?

你寧願做一條魚嗎？

As if the rest of the song

didn’t have to be there.
