電影《沙讚！》影評：Silly Fun

When the director David F. Sandberg announced that this was a kids movie, he meant it 100%. This is okay because we have a lot of great kids movies which are both family-friendly and fun. And Shazam! is definitely family-friendly, and it is also a ton of fun, but perhaps not that great. It is by all means a typical popcorn flick packed with silly fun and gives people some good laughs, but as entertaining as it may be, it fails to deliver something that truly memorable or significant.

The cast is fantastic, especially Jack Dylan Grazer, whose character steals a lot of scenes and contributes to most of the funny moments. Meanwhile Zachary Levi makes a great Captain Marvel, energetic and goofy, and comes with many silliness in a good way, though his costume is kind of lame. And there is something DC actually can learn from Marvel, that is to create some decent superhero costumes. And I’m looking at both Captain Marvel and Superman when I’m saying this.

And as I have mentioned, there really isn’t anything that is truly memorable. There isn’t any impressive or particularly big scene, and there isn’t a great original soundtrack to accompany the titular hero, apart from the Rocky parody tune. And speaking of which, the whole movie feels like a big parody to the superhero culture but is too afraid to dive too deeply or too seriously. And there were some opportunities for some great shots, but somehow the movie chose to play it cheap and maintain its mediocre quality by sticking to the regular.

So in conclusion, a pure-bred family-friendly movie from a director who’s mainly known for his works in the horror genre. Not a must-watch, but will not disappoint either. At least it is frank about being cheesy.
