電影《靈魂急轉彎》影評:A Soul Free of Obsession
靈魂急轉彎影評What strikes me most about Soul is its attempt with genuine efforts to answer one of the most complicated and controversial questions in the world—the purpose/meaning of life—which is done gracefully.
When we’re young, it’s inevitable that we’re likely to be obsessed with something that disconnects us from real life, just like how Gardner feels about the piano and jazz, like how 22 is obsessed with the concept of purpose of life after her first experience on the earth. The conflict is just ubiquitous and ever-present. Remember how the pianist felt after his great success at the show? That mixture of emptiness, confusion and disappointment, that story of water and ocean, that lonely midnight tune at the piano...every clue leads to the sudden understanding that instead of having to pursue something we thought we’re meant to, all we can do with life is to live every minute of it, and remember, no one is not good enough for a life.
We’re told thousands of times to live in the moment, but how many of us actually realize that slogan? It’s like how they sing it in the song: 「it’s my life, it’s now or never, I don’t wanna live forever, I just wanna live while I’m alive. 」
That said, it doesn’t mean we have to lose our purposes. It’s just sometimes the obsession is too much to handle and we forget to truly live our lives. After all, you don’t have to be a veterinarian to be happy. Being an excellent barber saves thousands of lives in different occasions as well!!
Young man, cheer up. You’ve got a whole life in front of you. Wish you a soul free of obsession and, please enjoy. ;)
