Landowners have got t'government in their pockets.

他們收成不好 沒有穀物了
They have a bad harvest, there's a shortage of corn.

They won't let them import any from France or America
或其他地方進口

而是逼迫價格上漲 搞得我們這些可憐人
so they force prices up and us poor souls end up
必須用五倍的價格去買條麵包
paying five times more for a loaf of bread.

- Is that t'Corn Laws? - It is.
*穀物法為當時英國以保護地主農民為藉口 對進口穀物強徵關稅的法律N該法的目的其實是為了保護土地貴族利益 最終導致穀物價格飆升
那本是為了幫我們的 結果卻把情況搞得更糟了
They were meant to help us but it just made things worse.

When has a government ever done anything to help us?

and his scurrilous brethren

are hallooed by the ill-educated, ungodly mob

as they incite them in violent and in bloody terms.

They speak not of reform... but of destruction.
